It’s also known for its natural scenery shown in the beaches, the surrounding mountains and the parts of the Atlantic Forest that are found on Paraty’s grounds. Paraty is also known for its lively and vibrant gastronomic scene with different seafood cuisines, traditional Brazilian food and other international dining options. 

Is Paraty Safe?

As a small municipality and a renowned tourist destination, Paraty is relatively safe. Tourists and residents are safe to wander around the city’s major attractions with police being there, especially at night, to ensure order and safety. 

Transportation in Paraty

Paraty is a rather small town, so getting around different parts of it is generally easy. The trick is in how to get to Paraty. You have several options through which you can get to the town; you can either take a small helicopter, a private plane, or a charter from Rio de Janeiro to Paraty Airport, since there are no scheduled flights to Paraty yet, or you can take the air-conditioned buses that leave from Rio de Janeiro to Paraty regularly, these buses also have routes from Paraty back to the main city. Arriving at the town by the sea is also an option, where you can take a sailboat or a cruise ship from Rio de Janeiro, Angra dos Reis, or Ilha Grande to get to Paraty. You can also take the bus to and from Sao Paulo as it’s connected to Paraty by the main road. 

Must-Visit Places in Paraty

Paraty, though small and quaint, has plenty to offer its residents and tourists alike. It’s a beautiful town basked in stunning natural scenery as well as unique history and architecture. Out of the city’s numerous attractions, here are some of the ones you should definitely visit during your stay there. The Historic City Centre is generally considered Paraty’s main and most notable attraction. As a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site, this city landmark with its cobblestone streets and brightly coloured windows and doors is a must-visit Paraty staple. Paraty House of Culture, which is located in a historic town-building, is home to a permanent exhibit on local history and culture and is the place to be if you want to learn more about the city while enjoying its culture. Paraty is home to several ancient churches that showcase the town’s Baroque-style architecture; these churches include the Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário e São Benedito, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Dores, and the Chapel of Santa Rita among others. Paraty has a couple of main beaches: Praia do Pontal and Praia do Jabaquara, both of which have convenient locations and offer stunning views of the town’s surrounding mountains. Paraty is definitely worth visiting; despite being a small town, it still has a lot to offer, so make sure you carefully wander the city and uncover its hidden gems.
