Fort Saskatchewan Etymology - Where Does the Name Fort Saskatchewan Come From?

Fort Saskatchewan was named after the North Saskatchewan River, and the word “Fort” because of the fort that was located across the river from the hamlet of Lamoureux.

Fort Saskatchewan is a mid-sized city located along the North Saskatchewan River in Alberta, Canada. The city is part of the Edmonton census metropolitan area and is one of 24 municipalities that constitute the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board. It’s also located 25 kilometers northeast of Edmonton, the provincial capital. Fort Saskatchewan is bordered by Strathcona County to the south and east, Sturgeon County to the north and west, and the City of Edmonton to the southwest. Sturgeon County is across the North Saskatchewan River. Fort Saskatchewan is a 12-hour car ride to Vancouver with a total distance of 1,182km/734mi. When using the underground from Clareview station to Waterfront station, it will take around 19 hours.
