History & Background
Aberystwyth University was founded in 1872 as University College Wales, Aberystwyth, and changed its name to University College of Wales, Aberystwyth in 1894 after becoming a founding member of the University of Wales. The institution changed its name again in the mid-1990s, becoming the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. The Institution of Wales ceased to be a federal university on September 1, 2007, and Aberystwyth University regained its independence. It appointed a new vice-chancellor in 2011, who restructured the academic departments into broader subject-themed institutes.

He was an internationally famous geographer who specialized in the physical and social geography of his home country of Wales. Bowen, a small stature, was a member of the Department of Geography's academic staff.
Salleh Abas - Law
Mohamed Salleh bin Abas was the first lord president of Malaysia's Federal Court. During the Malaysian constitutional crisis of 1988, he was fired from his position. This conduct was strongly denounced globally and is usually seen as the incident that precipitated a significant erosion in the independence of Malaysia's judiciary.
Joe Borg - Politics
Joseph Borg is a politician and diplomat from Malta. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs and headed Malta's EU-accession discussions before becoming Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs.
Lance Batchelor - Business
Lance Batchelor is a former naval officer and businessman from the United Kingdom. He is the chairman of Reed & Mackay, Ometria, and CCS, all of which are owned by Private Equity and Venture Capital. He also serves on the Royal Navy's board of directors as a non-executive director.
Catherine Bishop - Sports
Catherine Bishop is a former rower from the United Kingdom. She won the World Championships in the coxless pair in 2003 and a silver medal in the Olympic Games in 2004 with Katherine Grainger. She is currently a leadership speaker, writer, and consultant after a career as a diplomat.
Dorothy Bonarjee - Arts and Entertainment
Dorothy Noel Bonarjee, also known as “Dorf”, was an Indian poet and artist who received a Bardic chair while studying in Wales and was the first woman internal student at University College London to receive a law degree.

Facilities and Resources
The Penglais and Llanbadarn campuses are ideally positioned near the town and are designed to make students comfortable. The Institute of Biological, Environmental, and Rural Sciences, Aberystwyth Innovation and Enterprise Campus are all located on the Gogerddan Campus. The University's original location, the Old College on the seaside, now serves as a rehearsal area for students. The School of Art, which includes a gallery and museum, is housed in a lovely Edwardian building in the heart of the town.
