Why Study at Cranfield University?
Cranfield University was founded by the Royal Air Force base of RAF Cranfield in 1946 as the College of Aeronautics. In 1967, Cranfield University School of Management received its royal charter to award academic degrees to the students. In 1993, the Royal Charter of the college was changed to the University of Cranfield. A year later in 2003, Cranfield became wholly for postgraduate and the Shrivenham site admitted its last undergraduates.
Prince Edward Duke of Kent, in the Torrens Building in Adelaide next to Carnegie Mellon University, opened the first international university campus in 2007. It provided short postgraduate studies in defence management and technology in collaboration with local universities and through distance learning courses. However, the "defence boom" was not realised in South Australia, which prompted the closure of the campus in 2010 because of its inability to draw enough students. Silsoe College closed in 2009, and its facilities have shifted to Cranfield's main campus.
