Birmingham Metropolitan College was founded on September 1, 2009, through two institutions: Matthew Boulton College, which traces its history back to 1895, and Sutton Coldfield College, whose history goes back to 1896. It also merged with Stourbridge College on June 1, 2013, to expand its courses. The Municipal Technical School, which was situated on Suffolk Street in Birmingham, was the forerunner of Matthew Boulton College. The college's construction began on November 18, 1893, and it was completed on September 16, 1895.
