Stafford House Canterbury Student Accommodation
Homestay Accommodation: If you want to get a true taste of British culture by staying in a homestay, you must let the school know four weeks before your arrival so that they can find you a suitable homestay.
You will be treated as if you were a family member, and you should show respect to the host. This means you must follow the host's rules, such as arriving on time for meals and refraining from smoking in the house. Homestays can range from a single individual to an elderly couple or a family with young children. Each homestay is distinct and operates on its own timetable. Simply ask your host or come speak with a member of the student services team if you have any questions.
Depending on what you have booked with Stafford House, breakfast is included during the week, dinner is included in the evening, and all meals are included on weekends. If you want to eat a lot of fruit or other snacks in addition to the meals provided, buy them yourself and ask the host if you can store them in the fridge or cupboard.
You'll be able to use the bath or shower at least once a day, but because most UK homes only have one bathroom, you'll have to work around the rest of the family's schedule. Some hosts make it mandatory for students to use the restroom at specific times, while others do not (for example not late at night). A towel will be provided, but you must buy your own soap, toothpaste, shampoo, and other toiletries.
Laundry will be done at least once a week at the homestay. They'll show you how to use the machine and put your clothes in the right place. The host provides towels and bed linen, which are changed once a week.
Year-Round Residence 18+: Holmes House, completed in September 2020, is a modern student residence with fully furnished rooms, private bathrooms, study areas, and plenty of storage space. The residence is only a few minutes' walk from Canterbury city centre, with a plethora of cafes, restaurants, shops, parks, and other points of interest close by.
Summer Residence 16-17: In July and August, the school offers fully supervised residences for 16 and 17-year-olds. This includes a specially designed social programme for this age group as well as full board catering. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided by the Stafford House canteen, as well as live-in residential supervisors. This is a great alternative to homestay for students under 18.
