History & Background
The University of South Wales was established in 2013 following the merging of Glamorgan University and Newport University. In 2013, the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport amalgamated to establish South Wales. Both institutions that have come together to become the University of South Wales have a long and varied history, with each dating back more than 170 years.
Founded in 1841 in Newport city centre, the Newport Mechanics Institute was formed to provide staff and tradespeople with further education. For two shillings per fifth, working men and women were able to attend various lectures to learn subjects such as 'pursuit of attainment and understanding' and 'common superstition '. The university welcomes 22,330 from 122 countries, according to 2018/ 2019 stats.
The University of South Wales has campuses in Newport, Cardiff, and Pontypridd, a public university in Wales. In 2013, the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport merged to form the University of Wales, Newport. The university is Wales' second-largest university in student numbers, offering over 200 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. The University of South Wales has many notable and distinguished alumni, including the English record producer, musician, author, inventor, singer, songwriter, composer, marketer, and manager, Richard James Burgess, the British filmmaker, Asif Kapadia, the Player of the Wales International Rugby Union, Nigel Walker, who is currently the National Director of the English Institute of Sport, the English fiction writer, Emma Darwin, the Welsh businesswoman, Trudy Norris-Grey who was appointed Director of WISE, aiming to inspire more girls and women to take STEM career paths, the Rugby union player, Rupert Moon, and the English author, Camilla Way.

To help students find career-related work experience, the university has a dedicated team. As a result, within six months of graduation, 95% of graduates are in jobs or further education, much higher than the national average (DLHE 2016).

The University has three faculties - Computing, Engineering and Science; Creative Industries; and Life Sciences and Education. USW also has research centres across critical disciplines and a range of departments and professional support services that support the University's work.
Academic Facilities
The library offers plenty of services and facilities on each campus, including books, journals, digital resources, PCs and free access to Wi-Fi. Using FINDit, specialist databases and other internet sources, faculty librarians can help students search for materials. In addition to the Clinical Simulation Centre, design and photography studios and USW Sports Park are industry-standard facilities. All campuses have onboard cafés and food courts. The Treforest campus also has a Graduate School. The university also has a good number of sports facilities for all levels to enhance their body and mental health.

All halls of residence are an excellent place to meet new people and create friends. Students at USW Pontypridd are either on campus in the Mountain Halls or the Glamorgan court. These modern halls can be reached in 2 minutes by foot from the campus. The Liberty Bridge or the Freedom Park in the USW Cardiff are close to the town centre. The accommodation cost is £93- £132 a week for the self-catered.
