The City of Glasgow College is a further and higher education college located in Glasgow, Scotland. The college was founded in September 2010 as a result of the merger of three established city colleges which are Central College Glasgow, Glasgow Metropolitan College, and Glasgow College of Nautical Studies. These institutions served the people of Glasgow for over 50 years and welcomed students of all backgrounds, nationalities, and cultures, providing them with inspiring confidence and helping them get on the road to success. The college is considered to be the largest technical and professional skills college in Scotland. It’s the only college in the UK to have a MasterChef: The Professionals champion as a senior chef lecturer, it’s one of the top two in the UK for WorldSkills, more than 90% of its students seek further learning, apprenticeships, and employment, and it offers Scotland’s first women-only engineering course. 

Departments and Divisions

The college consists of four faculties that offer a variety of full-time, part-time, weekend, and evening courses across a wide range of subjects and fields of study. The four faculties are the Faculty of Creative Industries, the Faculty of Education and Humanities, the Faculty of Hospitality and Leisure, and the Faculty of Nautical and STEM. 

The Faculty of Creative Industries courses include 3D Design, Furniture, Acting & Performance, Fine Art, Photography, Digital Media, Graphic Arts, Digital & Web Technologies, Media, Broadcasting, Marketing & PR, Construction, and Building Crafts. 

The Faculty of Education and Humanities offers a wide range of commercial courses delivered by experienced professionals across different areas such as Early Education & Childhood Practice, Healthcare, Social Care, Social Sciences, Accounting & Financial Services, Retail & Supply Chain Management, Business, Legal Services, Trade Union Education, Foreign Languages, and ESOL. 

The Faculty of Hospitality and Leisure provides a variety of courses to enhance students’ job prospects and skills. The courses are offered in fields such as Events & Hospitality Management, Travel & Tourism, Culinary Arts, Beauty & Complementary Therapy, Hairdressing, Makeup Artistry & Barbering, Sports Coaching & Fitness, and Sports Therapy. The faculty also includes the Hospitality Junior Academy which is designed for youngsters aged between 13 to 18 years who are interested in learning about working in the Hospitality industry as well as for teachers to offer courses for school pupils providing specialized knowledge and skills. 

The Faculty of Nautical and STEM offers courses in subjects such as Blended and Distance Learning, Mechanical Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Nautical Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, and Cyber Security & Networking. This faculty also offers a wide range of marine operations courses from mandatory training for Merchant Navy Officers to a range of short courses such as MCA, RYA, Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (PSSR), and Personal Survival Techniques (PST) for the professional development of seafarers. 

Facilities

The City of Glasgow College offers a wide range of facilities across its campuses so students can study and enjoy a flexible and modern environment. The college’s twin site campus is considered to be one of the largest in Europe, able to adapt to the changing needs of future generations, and it’s architecturally award-winning. 

The City Campus facilities include a vast open public reception area, welcoming break out spaces, a three-floor library with IT facilities and social learning spaces, roof gardens, two viewing terraces, more than 500 learning spaces, industry-standard TV, radio studios, fully-equipped aircraft training cabin, 16 professional cookery kitchens, Sport Scotland standard sports complex, creative design and photography studios, industrial-sized construction, craft, and built environment space, city markets including bakers, butchers, and fishmongers (open to the public), Scholars fine dining restaurant (open to the public), beauty salon, commercial hair salon, nail bar, and a Business Centre. Vending is also provided throughout the building. There are 22 lifts available as well as lockers for students. 

The Riverside Campus is a multi-award-winning building and it’s the most modern and most technologically advanced maritime campus in the world. It includes the first 360-degree Shipping Simulation Suite in Scotland, Marine Skills Centre with its own jetty, a free-fall lifeboat, and rescue lifeboats, The first women-only engineering and construction classes in Scotland, one of few STEM Centre’s of Excellence in Scotland, state-of-the-art Nautical Chart Rooms, and one of the most modern working ships engine rooms in the UK.
