Why Study at Sotheby's Institute of Art
Since its founding in 1969, Sotheby's Institute has gathered a vast global network of diverse individuals, which continues to expand with each class. Over 2,500 students study at Sotheby's Institute each year, and many of them go on to work and network in every sector in the art world. The Master's degree alone has over 8,000 alumni, making it the world's largest and most powerful alumni network.
Despite being privately owned, the Institute maintains close ties with the auction house Sotheby's. The objective rigour required in higher education can now be combined with exclusive access to the world's largest art market.
A Sotheby's Institute experience includes a unique, firsthand study of the art world, from field study trips to behind-the-scenes visits and expert-led instruction, ensuring that students are well equipped with a depth of understanding, art historical scholarship, and business acumen relevant to today's art world.
Sotheby's Institute-London is part of Bedford Square, one of London's best-preserved Georgian squares, and is located in the heart of Bloomsbury. A private central garden is located in the square's heart and is only accessible to Institute students via a private key. A few minutes' walk will take you to Sotheby's auction house, the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, and the Royal Academy of Arts. The Institute is also close to Mayfair, the traditional heart of London's art market, which is home to a plethora of dealers and galleries.

Sotheby's Institute of Art Student Accommodation
Despite the fact that the Institute does not arrange London student rooms for students, it collaborates with the University of London Housing Service (ULHS).
The ULHS maintains an online database of accommodation provided by registered landlords and letting agents, including group flats and houses, as well as rooms in shared flats and houses. ULHS strives to ensure that all landlords are trustworthy and asks them to sign a code of conduct. They also have short-term accommodation offers in their database as well as other information on short-stay options on their website, such as host families, private halls of residence, hostels, and hotels.
ULHS can advise you on where to look in London, how to find housing, and how to budget, among other things. They publish a London Student Housing Guide, which contains a wealth of useful information. The Institute also has copies available, which students can use during registration. ULHS also offers a contract checking service before you sign a lease with a landlord, and if you run into any problems, they can provide legal advice and support as needed. Contract reviews and legal advice are only provided by appointment.
Applicants who have made a deposit will have access to MySIA, which is the new student portal. MySIA is your one-stop shop for all things Sotheby's Institute, including information on how to register with the University of London Housing Services (ULHS). MySIA also has a discussion board where applicants can meet up with their peers to look for housing together.
