Why Study at the University of West London - Ealing Campus
With campuses in Ealing and Paragon, Brentford in Greater London, and in Reading, Berkshire, the University of West London (UWL) is a public research university with roots dating back to 1860. It used to be known as the Lady Byron School until it later became Ealing College of Higher Education. The Slough campus was then founded in 1912 to later become Slough College of Further Education. A series of mergers led to the foundation of the University starting with the merger of Thames Valley College of Higher Education, Queen Charlotte's College of Health Care Studies, Ealing College of Higher Education, and the London College of Music in 1990. They became Polytechnic of West London and after two years, it became a university named Thames Valley University under the Further and Higher Education Act 1992. The next merger was in 2004 when Thames Valley merged with Reading College and School of Arts and Design. The further education courses taught at these two colleges were then transferred to a relaunched Reading College. In 2009, the Slough Campus with its majority of nursing students was shut down and students were relocated to Reading. As for the other courses, they moved to one of the university's Greater London campuses. Some courses remained at Slough but in another location. 2010 was the year the university changed its name to the University of West London and is now ranked 56th place nationally by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018. It was also ranked 34th best university according to the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide and was the only university to win the Queen's Anniversary Prize for outstanding achievement and excellence in hospitality education.
