UEA is a public research university located in Norwich, Norfolk, UK. It was founded in 1963 and now it’s ranked 25th in The Complete University Guide 2021, 21st in The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021, and 44th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 for research citations. In 2009, UEA’s School of International Development was awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize in recognition of 40 years of sustained responses to environmental change and world poverty. It was awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for the second time in 2011 for its contribution to creative writing. The university also has the TEF Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework.
Departments and Divisions
UEA consists of four main faculties and 26 schools which include academic schools, graduate schools, and research groups. The four main faculties are Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Social Sciences.
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities includes the School of Art, Media, & American Studies, the School of History, the School of Literature, Drama, & Creative Writing, and the School of Politics, Philosophy, Language and Communication Studies as well as an Interdisciplinary Institute for the Humanities.
The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is considered one the best in the UK for its innovative teaching and research excellence in health. Teaching in the School of Health Sciences focuses strongly on Problem Based Learning (PBL). The faculty is also a partner of the Norwich Research Park which is considered one of Europe’s leading centres for food and health research as well as a home to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
The Faculty of Science includes the School of Biological Sciences, the School of Chemistry, the School of Computing Science, the School of Environmental Sciences, the School of Mathematics, and the School of Pharmacy.
The Faculty of Social Sciences includes the School of Economics, the School of Education and Lifelong Learning, the School of International Development, the School of Psychology, the School of Social Work, and Law School.
Facilities and Resources
The UEA campus has over 15 places to eat at and over 250 sports clubs and societies. Culture and Entertainment outlets include LCR, a music venue on campus, a pub-style area called Bar Su, Sainsbury Centre which includes artwork including pieces by Picasso, and a Sculpture Walk featuring abstract art extending from Sainsbury Centre and all the way around the campus. Food outlets include Ziggys, Bar Su, Blend, Atrium Cafe, Modern Life at Sainsbury Centre which has homemade meals, and Scholars Bar for mature and postgraduate students. Sports and Fitness facilities include Sportspark Gym, Sportspark swimming pool, Sportspark classes such as aerobics, yoga, etc. Other campus facilities include a library, a music centre, Medical Centre and Boots Pharmacy, Faith Centre, SU Shop, and Barclays Bank.
University of East Anglia UEA Student Accommodation
The UEA student accommodation is award-winning and is offered for undergraduate students, postgraduate students, medical and health sciences students, visiting exchange students, students with disabilities, and INTO students. Homestay accommodation is also offered at UEA. There are some terms and conditions when applying for UEA accommodation which should be put into consideration.
UEA Student Accommodation for Undergraduate Students:
UEA student accommodation is offered for all undergraduate students with two options of bathroom facilities: shared or en-suite. Students can pick the location whether in the city or on campus as well as choose the number of residents per flat which varies between 2 to 14. Accommodation for undergraduate students in the schools of Health Sciences and Norwich Medical School is offered separately. Undergraduate students with disabilities or medical conditions will have specially adapted rooms provided by the UEA student accommodation.
UEA Student Accommodation for Postgraduate Students:
UEA student accommodation is offered for all postgraduate students with two options of bathroom facilities: shared or en-suite. Students can pick the location, whether in the city or on campus, as well as choose the number of residents per flat which varies between 2 to 14. The typical tenancy length for postgraduate students is 50 weeks, and students are advised to commit to the full-licence period and they will not be released from the tenancy to attend any fieldwork or equivalent research. Postgraduate students with disabilities or medical conditions will have specially adapted rooms provided by UEA student accommodation.
UEA Student Accommodation for Medical and Health Sciences Students:
Medical and Health Sciences students have a longer course period than the standard UEA students. That’s why they have their own accommodation with their own standard accommodation period of 38 week. Students are advised to commit to the full-licence period and they will not be released from the licence to attend any fieldwork or equivalent research. Students with disabilities or medical conditions will have specially adapted rooms provided by the UEA student accommodation.
UEA Student Accommodation for Visiting Exchange Students:
Visiting and Exchange Students starting in January or September should meet certain criteria set by UEA in order to receive a room offer.
UEA Student Accommodation for INTO Students:
Students studying INTO pre-sessional courses are offered accommodation according to the length of their pre-sessional course whether it’s 16-week course length, 12 and 8-week course lengths, or 6 and 4-week course lengths.
