Clemson University is a public land-grant research university in Clemson, South Carolina. Clemson University, founded in 1889, is South Carolina's second-largest university in student enrolment. The institution enrolled 20,195 undergraduate students and 5,627 graduate students for the fall 2019 semester, with a student/faculty ratio of 18:1. Clemson University's 1,400-acre campus is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains foothills. The campus presently borders Lake Hartwell, produced by the dam that was finished in 1962. The institution oversees the adjoining 17,500-acre Clemson Experimental Forest, which is used for research, education, and enjoyment.
Clemson University was established in 1889 and boasts a total undergraduate enrolment of 21,653 students (fall 2021), a suburban environment, and a campus area of 17,000 acres. The academic calendar is semester-based. The university is ranked #77 in National Universities in the Best Colleges 2022-2023 edition.
The university researches to benefit the community as students and faculty are working on projects ranging from improving irrigation systems to reducing bullying in South Carolina schools. Clemson is also known for its sports and the colour orange, and the Clemson Tigers compete in the NCAA Division I Atlantic Coast Conference. Students can join over 400 student clubs and organisations, with approximately 25% of students involved in the Greek system. First-year students are required to live on campus, and nearly half of all students choose to do so. Former U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond, former Washington Redskins centre Jeff Bostic, and PGA Tour golfer Lucas Glover are among the honoured alums of the university.
Admission to Clemson University is more selective, with a 49% acceptance rate. Half of Clemson University's admitted students have an SAT score between 1220 and 1420 or an ACT score between 27 and 32. However, one-quarter of admitted applicants received scores higher than these ranges, while the other quarter received lower scores. Note that Clemson University's application deadline is May 1st.
The admissions officials consider a student's GPA a critical academic consideration. When available, an applicant's high school class rank is significant, and Clemson University admissions personnel consider letters of recommendation.

Facilities and Resources
COMSET
In 2000, the Center for Optical Materials Science and Engineering Technologies was established. COMSET provides a structured framework with a significant centralised infrastructure for faculty with similar interests to collaborate on developing advanced materials, devices, and systems that generate, transmit, manipulate, and use light. Light-based technology science and engineering are approaching a $7.5 trillion global market. Clemson University and South Carolina, through COMSET, are uniquely positioned to support the industry's research, workforce development, and outreach needs, with materials serving as the technology enabler within all devices and components.
Electron Microscopy
The Electron Microscopy Facility has several cutting-edge, high-resolution transmission electron microscopes, scanning electron microscopes, and a combined Focused Ion Beam microscope. The goal is to provide the faculty and industrial collaborators with the best microscopy and analytical services possible. Clients from the aerospace, automotive, pharmaceutical, textile, electronics, environmental, and medical industries visit the multi-use facility.
Godley-Snell Research Institute
The Godley-Snell Research Center (GSRC), located on the main campus of Clemson University, is a centralised animal research facility with 22,000 square feet. It is dedicated to the care and maintenance of laboratory animal species used in Clemson University's research and teaching programmes and provides resources and support services for those programmes. The Office of Animal Services is in charge of animal welfare. A computer-controlled monitoring system with dial-out alarms continuously monitors environmental parameters. Also, there are two large operating rooms, a nursing station, sterile prep, a recovery room, a procedure and surgical prep room, and radiology in the surgical facility.
The National Brick Research
The National Brick Research Center is a for-profit organisation that conducts research, educates the public, and provides services to manufacturers and users of clay bricks and other ceramic materials (tile, mortar, and ceramics). The Center aims to supply university students' educational experiences while contributing to the University's research and public service mission. Educational Services are available, including short courses, webinars, the Brickyard Magazine, and annual brick forums.
