Colorado Technical College was founded in 1965 to train former military personnel in technical and vocational subjects. Colorado Technical University was established in 1995 after the institution was granted university status. CTU began using Intellipath, a proprietary adaptive learning programme, to provide personalised learning in 2012. Military Times magazine ranked CTU first in the online and non-traditional universities category in 2013 and 2014. It reclaimed this position in 2016. CTU's Sioux Falls, South Dakota, campus closed in September 2016.
