The institute has a 3:1 student to faculty ratio and accepts an annual population of the brightest students both locally and internationally. Currently, CalTech has around 1,500 graduate students and around 500 undergraduate students. The institute’s alumni and faculty have gone on to win a total of 46 Nobel Prizes.
Departments and Divisions
CalTech’s education is notable for its rigorous curriculum, close collaborations with faculty, and small class sizes. Caltech students can apply for undergraduate and graduate degrees. There are around 30 graduate and undergraduate majors and minors for students to choose from. These fields of study include Applied Physics, Biology, Business, Economics, and Management, Chemistry, Computer Science, English, Philosophy, Political Science, History, Astrophysics, Aerospace, and Bioengineering, to name a few. The institute also has a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, where every summer hundreds of undergraduate students have the opportunity to conduct their own research projects under the guidance of experienced mentors working at the frontiers of their fields.

CalTech Y
The CalTech Y provides students with unique and valuable opportunities to explore their interests and grow into responsible adults that offer support and give back to the community. With the CalTech Y, students have gone on cultural trips to South America and India; hiked and camped on weekend trips; volunteered at local schools; and listened to ambassadors talk about science policy. CalTech Y gives students the opportunity to get involved, take part in community service programmes, and engage in over 70 annual programmes offered by the CalTech Y, including Social and Cultural Outreach, Outdoor Adventures, and Educational Programmes. Students can also be part of the CalTech Y Committees, which include the Student Executive Committee, the Student Activism Speaker Series Committee, Service Leaders, and the Y-Outdoors Committee.
Health and Wellness
Student Wellness Services at CalTech is committed to supporting the health and emotional well-being of students. Through individualised treatment planning, consultation, and outreach, the California Institute of Technology provides direct services and community-level interventions to improve student wellness and allow students to focus on their pursuit of academic success and holistic development. Counselling Services supports and promotes the mental health of CalTech students and aims to improve the quality of their lives and help them with any issues they might face during their study period. Services are available to all eligible enrolled Caltech students and are not dependent on enrollment in any insurance plan. The available Health Services at CalTech are numerous and include Allergy Shots, ADD/ADHD Medications, Concussion Evaluation, Laboratory Testing, Gynaecological Care, Prevention Care, Primary Care, Vaccines, and Referrals, among many others.
