Colorado State University (CSU) is a public land-grant research university in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Colorado State University System's flagship university. Colorado State University is one of the "R1: Doctoral Universities - Very High Research Activity" institutions. From 1870 to 1935, the university was known as Colorado Agricultural College; from 1935 to 1957, it was known as Colorado State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. In 2018, there were approximately 34,166 students enrolled, including both resident and non-resident instruction students.

CSU spent $375.0 million on research and development in the fiscal year 2018, ranking 65th in the nation overall and 39th excluding medical school expenses. CSU alums include Pulitzer Prize winners, astronauts, CEOs, and two former Colorado governors. CSU spent $447.2 million on research and development in 2021.

Colorado State University admissions are competitive, with a 90% acceptance rate and a 91.8% early acceptance rate. Half of those admitted to Colorado State University have an SAT score of 1080 to 1290 or an ACT score of 23 to 29. However, one-quarter of admitted applicants received scores higher than these ranges, while the other quarter received lower scores. Colorado State University's application deadline is July 1, and the fee is $50.

Departments and Divisions

The university has about 2,000 faculty members across eight colleges and 55 academic departments. Bachelor's degrees are available in 65 fields of study, with master's degrees available in 55. Colorado State University awards doctoral degrees in 40 areas of study, as well as a professional degree in veterinary medicine.

Facilities and Resources

Campus: The Oval, an expansive green area 2,065 feet around, is located at the heart of the CSU campus. Designed in 1909, the Oval remains a centre of activity and a significant landmark at CSU. 

The Administration Building, built in 1924, faces the Oval from the south end, and several academic and administrative buildings occupy its perimeter. Additionally, The Music Building, which used to house the university library, now houses the Institute for Learning and Teaching, which offers academic and career counselling and other student-focused programmes. When the University Center for the Arts opened in 2008, the music department relocated.

Foothills Campus: The department of atmospheric sciences, as well as several research and outreach centres, are housed on the Foothills Campus, which is located on the northwest outskirts of Fort Collins. The Foothills Campus is home to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Engineering Research Center, the B.W. Pickett Equine Center, the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA), the Colorado Division of Wildlife, and the Animal Reproduction Biotechnology Lab.

 

Colorado State University Student Housing
